NOT IN FERGUSON and NOT IN FREEMAN - THE FIRST AUSTRALIAN EDITION (?)

Darwin, Charles. Cole's Library of Notable Books. JOURNAL OF RESEARCHES INTO THE NATURAL HISTORY AND GEOLOGY of the Countries Visited during the Voyage of H.M.S. "Beagle" Round the World. Under the Command of Capt. Fitz Roy, R.N. By Charles Darwin, M.A., F.R.S. (From the Corrected and Enlarged Edition of 1845). With a Biographical Introduction. Melbourne: E. W. Cole, Book Arcade, Bourke Street, East. Cr. 8vo, First Australian Edition(?); pp. xx, 382(last blank); 16 plates, over 30 text illustrations (including maps), index; original black cloth, gilt; all edges dyed red; (portions of cloth from boards eaten away by silverfish, otherwise a fine, clean, and crisp copy); rare. Melbourne; E. W. Cole, Book Arcade; N.D. [c. 1890?].
***Not in Ferguson, nor in Freeman, but clearly sharing the same parentage as the Routledge edition (John Lubbock's Hundred Book's - Freeman 69), in this case however including both the plates and the biographical introduction by G. T. Bettany. The title-page is a cancel. This appears to be the first Australian edition. #66393
